My story

My love for hands

At the risk of sounding obsessive, I love everything about hands. They’re interesting and exciting. People often ask me if there is anything I don’t know about hands. And I answer truthfully “Even after all these years, I’m still learning.” I learn each day from my patients' experiences. I’ve treated professional artists and musicians, elite sportspeople, and even an astronaut in Texas! And while their circumstances, assessment and treatment are all different, one thing unites them all.

Without the use of their hands, their lives would be turned upside down.

Your hands, my world

Hands have been my world since I first became an OT. I’ve worked closely with hand surgeons and had my own private hand therapy practice in Sydney for 17 years. In 2016 I started working from MGS Physiotherapy on Sydney’s northern beaches. I still spend a couple of days a week there. After more than 30 years of loving face to face consultations, I could never give that up.

The evolution to virtual hand therapy

A difficult part of my job is seeing patients whose conditions have deteriorated due to difficulty accessing hand therapy. When COVID hit in 2020, I knew this problem was going to be amplified. While many clinics were offering virtual sessions, I wanted to do more.

Hand therapy needed to be more accessible. I knew that change was needed – fast.

It needed to be simple, convenient and achievable.

I wanted to make it my focus, and make it available to anyone, anywhere in Australia.

And so, Virtual Hand Therapy was born.

Occasionally I do stop thinking about hands.

My husband and I have a virtual Brady Bunch – we have six kids between us, so family is a significant part of my life.

I love tennis, exploring the world and seeing live music. You could even say my love for live music rivals my love for hands.

I won’t tell you how old I am, but I will tell you I’ve seen Queen, U2, INXS, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Whitney Houston, Robbie Williams, Prince, Lady Gaga, Grace Jones, The Cure, Midnight Oil, Hoodoo Gurus, Polish Club, DMA's and The Foo Fighters, to name a few.

Focused, caring & committed hand therapy for everyone.

When you have a fiery passion for something, it’s hard not to make it your world.  Knowing I can now reach all Australians, with distance and traditional clinic hours no longer a barrier, I’ve found my new happy place.

If you need focused, caring and committed hand therapy, I’d love to become part of your world.
